About the author
Johan Huizinga (Groninga 1872 - De Steeg, Arnhem 1945), storico olandese, indirizzò le sue ricerche alla storia del Medioevo occidentale, insegnando dal 1905 all’Università di Groninga e dal 1915 al 1942 a Leida. Tra le sue opere ricordiamo Erasmo (1924), La crisi della civiltà (1935), Homo Ludens (1938). Già a partire dal 1933 avversò il nazismo e nel 1940, sotto l’occupazione nazista dell’Olanda, fu fatto prigioniero e tenuto in ostaggio per due anni.
