O ovoj e-knjizi

John Gabriel Borkman is a four-act play by Henrik Ibsen, written in the late 19th century. The drama follows the downfall of a former bank manager, whose financial scandal destroyed his career and family ties. Tensions surface between his wife Gunhild, her twin sister Ella, and his son Erhart, each shaped by his past. Ella’s return rekindles old conflicts, exposing the deep wounds of love, resentment, and betrayal within the family. Obsessed with regaining power, Borkman ultimately faces a tragic end, symbolizing the futility of unchecked ambition.

O autoru

Henrik Ibsen(1828-1906) was a Norwegian playwright known as the father of modern drama, celebrated for exposing social hypocrisy and exploring inner conflicts in his works. He began with elements of romanticism but gradually shifted toward realism and symbolism, delving deeply into human existence and societal issues. His major plays such as A Doll’s House, Ghosts, An Enemy of the People, and The Wild Duck stirred great controversy in their time. His dramas emphasize themes of individual freedom, responsibility, and the struggle for truth, remaining widely performed across the world today.
