"Exploring the unknown" is a multi-volume series containing a selection of key documents in the history of the U.S. civil program. Volume III, focusing on the use of space for practical applications, prints 112 keys documents on the history of satellite communications, remote sensing of Earth, and space as an investment in economic growth, edited for ease of use. Many of these are published here for the first time. Each is introduced by a headnote providing context, bibliographical information, and background information necessary to understanding the document. These are organized into three major sections, each beginning with an introductory essay that keys the documents to major events in the history of the space program. About the author
John M. Logsdon was Director of the Space Policy Institute of George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs, where he is also Professor Emeritus of Political Science and International Affairs. He holds a B.S. in physics from Xavier University and a Ph.D. in political science from New York University. He has been at George Washington University since 1970, and previously taught at The Catholic University of America. He is also a faculty member of the International Space University.
