About this ebook

If you thought the only way for you to return home safe was to embody the vilest evil, would you do it?

We’ve always viewed veterans as patriots who defended our nation and destroyed worldwide threats. As such, we would never imagine them as perpetrators of institutionalized evil. In times of war, they’re called upon to be their bravest selves. When times get desperate, they are forced to be their darkest. Few people know of the numerous abusive acts our soldiers have been compelled to take part in and how it ruined their humanity.

By Any Means Necessary dives deep into stories of how fourteen veterans went from justice-seeking liberators to unplanned abusers. Drastic hazing punishments desensitized soldiers to the extent that they soon had no problem inflicting such abuse. With implied authorization from superiors, some of them moved from replicating the hazing they experienced to committing torture and murder.

About the author

Dr. John Tsukayama has been a recognized name in the professional investigative arena for over twenty years. He received his doctorate and master degrees from the University of St. Andrews for his research in the use of torture and other atrocities in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism. He has long had an interest in the use of state power and what makes political violence attractive and viable.

In addition to his scholarly pursuits, John spent twenty-six years as an investigator and became skilled at establishing a human-to-human rapport with criminal suspects, who almost always trusted him enough to confess their crimes. He’s learned that even people who commit the most unimaginable acts, for the most part, live with regret and wish to be understood. He is also co-author of a highly regarded book on investigative concepts and techniques.

John lives in Hawaii with his family where he teaches university classes in Political Science and Criminal Justice.
