About the author
Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (Dublino 1814 - Dublino 1873), avvocato e scrittore irlandese. Famoso per aver creato il genere degli investigatori dell’occulto con il personaggio del dottor Hesselius, è oggi considerato dalla critica, assieme ad Edgar Allan Poe, come colui che ha posto le basi della moderna narrativa dell’orrore. Scrisse moltissimi racconti e alcuni romanzi, fra i quali The ghost and the bone-setter, The fortunes of Sir Robert Ardagh. Un anno prima della morte pubblicò il suo capolavoro Carmilla.
