About this ebook

In this debut novel and series starter, the last member of a murdered House searches for a missing nobleman, and uncovers clues about his own tortured past. Rune Saint John, last child of the fallen Sun Court, is hired to search for Lady Judgment's missing son, Addam, on New Atlantis, the island city where the Atlanteans moved after ordinary humans destroyed their original home. With his companion and bodyguard, Brand, he questions Addam's relatives and business contacts through the highest ranks of the nobles of New Atlantis. But as they investigate, they uncover more than a missing man: a legendary creature connected to the secret of the massacre of Rune's Court. In looking for Addam, can Rune find the truth behind his family's death and the torments of his past?

It was an enjoyable read, though the inclusion of a character with knowledge of the future (and their numerous steering of the story) made it feel like the competence of the characters was secondary to the plot, as at every juncture they had exactly the thing needed to succeed, because they were told about it. Thankfully, the characters manage to shine through enough to make the ride still fun despite it. It made me curious enough about future books in the series, though I do hope the character takes a back stage in them.

Coming back to write this after finishing the third book - it just keeps getting better. Beyond the great world-building and action, there are so many moments that will make you laugh and cry, and the emotional intimacy is written in a way I have never experienced. I can't recommend this series enough.

Impressive world-building, magic, magical creatures, tarot there's just so much to love about this new series. I can't wait to see where it goes - can I wait until my upcoming twelve hour flight to start reading the next in the series?
