This book intends to impart the logical scientific knowledge about the concept of environment and its components. It is a comprehensive effort that comprises topics of Environment and Mathematics with a full-fledged syllabus as prescribed by the University Grants Commission especially for the undergraduate courses. The book comprises of 10 chapters starting with the introduction and importance of environmental science, then moving on to physics of natural resources, structure and functions of ecosystem, biodiversity and conservation, environmental pollution, environmental impact assessment, human population and environment, waste pollution and management, environmental laws, social issues, global warming and finally concluding with the natural disasters and their management. The book provides in-depth information on types of natural resources and associated problems, biogeographical classification of India, sources and effects of different kinds of pollution, methodology of environmental impact assessment, environmental and human health, hazardous waste management and treatment technologies.

About the author

Kamal Kant Joshi has about 15 years research and teaching experience in various institutes and universities of Uttarakhand. Presently, he is Associate Professor and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand. He started his research career as JRF from G B Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Sustainable Development (an autonomous Institute of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Sustainable Development). He has completed R&D projects, published a book Environment and Ecology and more than ten research papers and articles in various reputed scientific journals. He has received many research awards, UGC fellowship, and a grant from National Science Academic United States to present research paper in Malaysia. An online course on Biodiversity Conservation and Conservation Skills has been developed by him for the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL).

Deepak Kumar is Senior Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Geology, D.B.S. (P.G.) College Dehradun, Uttarakhand. He has worked as a Registrar in Sri Dev Suman University (June, 2018 to June, 2019), Tehri Garhwal, and Uttarakhand. He is an expert in the field of geological science and environmental issues. He has 20 years of research and teaching experience and has guided more than 30 dissertations and 2 PhD's in various topics of environment and geology. He has published many research papers and articles in national and international journals, and presented 35 research papers in national and 3 in international seminars.
