Este proletariado sufría una fuerte explotación pero no tenía claros sus objetivos. Marx y Engels trataron de concientizar y organizar a los trabajadores con el fin de que éstos se organizaran en un partido revolucionario de los trabajadores, un partido obrero, para tomar el poder, destruir al capitalismo y crear una sociedad comunista, sin explotadores ni explotados.
