About this ebook

A gripping historical mystery set in Georgian London, where a woman's quest for justice leads her into a web of secrets, lies, and deadly deception.

London, 1782. Caroline 'Caro' Corsham, anxious for her politician husband's return from France, finds her life upended when she discovers a well-dressed woman mortally wounded in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. The Bow Street constables are quick to dismiss the case upon learning that the victim was a high-priced prostitute, but Caro is determined to see justice served.

Joining forces with thief-taker Peregrine Child, Caro delves into the hidden corners of Georgian society, navigating a treacherous world of artifice and deception. As many gentlemen refuse to speak of their dealings with the deceased, and Caro's own reputation hangs in the balance, uncovering the killer proves more perilous than she could have imagined.

From The Sunday Times bestselling author of The Square of Sevens, Laura Shepherd-Robinson's Daughters of Night is a haunting tale of murder, secrets, and the dark underbelly of 18th-century London. Perfect for fans of C.J. Sansom and Janice Hallett, this richly atmospheric historical mystery will keep readers guessing until the very end.

Daughters of Night by Laura Shepherd-Robinson I couldn’t put this book down! It gripped me from the start and every time I thought that I'd solved the mystery, Laura Shepherd-Robinson pulled the rug out from under my feet and I was back to square one! The story starts in London during 1782 and revolves around Caroline Corsham, who has arranged to meet a friend in the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. Unfortunately, when she arrives at the meeting place, she finds that her friend is dying from a horrific attack. Caro is part of society, one of the rich and privileged, although as she comes from a wealthy family of bankers, she is not on the same level as the nobility. Without giving too much away, Caro decides to investigate the murder as those in positions of power seem to want to sweep the whole thing under the carpet, so she employs a Thief Taker to assist her in her endeavours. Secrets mount upon secrets, people she thought trustworthy turn out not to be and the plot thickens.
