Benjamin Veitel Ephraim (1742-1811) war ein wohlhabender Berliner Kaufmann, aber auch der erste jüdische Autor eines Dramas in deutscher Sprache. Er veröffentlichte politische Schriften und eine eindrucksvolle Autobiografie. Während der Französischen Revolution arbeitete er als Geheimagent Preußens in Paris. Das vorliegende Buch bietet eine kommentierte und vollständige Ausgabe seiner Schriften sowie einer Auswahl seiner bisher unveröffentlichten geheimen Dossiers. Eine monografische Einleitung schildert sein abenteuerliches Leben und seine Zeit.
