Integrated survey and virtual simulation – This article illustrates a knowledge-gathering study used to develop a conservative restoration and enhancement project of seventeenth-century Palazzo Armano in Grosso Canavese (Turin). The historical/critical interpretation and characterisation of the building exploited integrated manual and instrumental metric-dimensional survey techniques, image rectification, and high resolution image processing in order to acquire a better understanding of the architecture, materials and deterioration. In addition, the use of virtual representation also influenced and guided decisions regarding conservation and/or transformation by simulating the formal outcome of several different intervention options. | Facing English text
