At Christmas 1976, A'Lelia is shocked when her production is kicked out of one of New York City’s most prominent hotels. The historic Annual Christmas Children's Presents, a pillar of New York high society for more than a century, is now in peril. Not everyone thinks it should be saved, and in division, house turns against house for the holidays.
While Al works for a solution, she meets an astute Memphis transplant. Emeric has his own challenges on a new job in a new city. Did he make the right decision moving here? As he falls for Al, he gets his answer. He doesn't care about her money. Or her illustrious family name. This Christmas, he only wants one gift.
But will that change when he learns the long-buried treachery that once tore their two families apart? And which Al still doesn’t know.
Set against the backdrop of Harlem soul, Black affluence, and the birth of hip hop, Who’s Lovin You is a love letter to the Black history of New York. This is the first installment of another Lula White saga.
Lula White was born and raised in Arkansas and now lives in Southern California. She loves foreign countries, cabins in the woods, sunsets on lakes, and dinners overlooking water. Writing has been her life since childhood, earning her scholarships through college, a residency at prestigious Hedgebrook, and several appellate reversals at the California Court of Appeals when she’s wearing her lawyer hat. Now she weaves her love of history, culture, and community into layered worlds, conflicted characters, and messy, unwoven plans. Her stories are for every person who wanted their heaven on Earth, and ran into a detour on the way.
