About this ebook

From the creator of the award-winning ITV series Prime Suspect, starring Helen Mirren, comes the fascinating back story of the iconic DCI Jane Tennison.

In 1973 Jane Tennison, aged 22, leaves the Metropolitan Police Training Academy to be placed on probationary exercise in Hackney where criminality thrives. We witness her struggle to cope in a male-dominated, chauvinistic environment, learning fast to deal with shocking situations with no help or sympathy from her superiors. Then comes her involvement in her first murder case.

Really liked this book, a real page turner for me. I have read many of Lynda La Plante's books and have always enjoyed them. It was great to get an insight into Jane Tennison as a young woman just starting out on what would become a brilliant career in the police force. Her relationship with her family at that time was also very interesting. I really hope Lynda La Plante decides to expand on the early part of Jane's career and we get to read more about her and her life during that era.

Interesting book, but I have to say that I am slightly dubious about some of the expressions; if you're going to set a book in 1973, use the language from that time; plus, I found it annoying to have what is essentially a prologue at the end

A "cops and robbers" novel of high standard. Thoroughly enjoyable reading.
