About the author

Lynn McDonald is professor emerita at the University of Guelph. She was a member of the Canadian Parliament 1982-1988, when she was spokesperson for the New Democratic Party variously on Justice, Communications and Culture, and the Environment. Her private member’s bill, the Non-smokers’ Health Act, 1988, was the first legislation in the world to establish smoke-free work and public places.S he is the editor of the 16 volume, peer-reviewed, Collected Works of Florence Nightingale, 2001-2012.
