About this ebook

Cutting-edge computer systems designer. Crisis project manager. Consultant to the Fortune 100. Utter workaholic.

Before he became a writer, M.L. “Matt” Buchman had dreamed of traveling the world by sailboat or small plane. Not once did he think about doing it by bicycle — not until he lost everything: career, house he’d been remodeling for the family he never had time to find, sense of self, all of it.

Broke and burned out at thirty-five, he sold everything, climbed on his bicycle Junior, and together they headed out on a journey of unknown duration.

His one guide? Following the setting sun west.

11,000 miles through eighteen countries. A voyage of adventure, discovery, and rebuilding a life. But mostly? A journey of discovering hope and the unexpected possibilities of the future.

M. L. Buchman tells an excellent story of a bicycle traveler. I would have used the words bicycle tourist before this read. I enjoy reading books about around the world touring by bike where the author takes on a great challenge overcoming many obstacles. M.L. Buchman taught me that traveling around the world is not cycling an uninterrupted line around the globe but enjoying the moment and immersing oneself in the people, places, and experiences along the way. What made this an excellent read is a transformation that he experienced as the months and miles went by. I rate books on bicycle touring, my favorite genre of books, by the story the author tells and how well he tells the story. He hit the nail on the head with this book. I will not spoil the book, but he did come to better understand where he came from, where he was in life, and where he wanted to be in life. Combining his transformative story with a well-chronicled journey, and his excellent sense of adventure earned my top rating for this book of a world traveler on a bike.
