Kurz nach ihrem achtzehnten Geburtstag wird die in Deutschland aufgewachsene Amra in den Kosovo, das Herkunftsland ihrer Eltern, abgeschoben. Sie kennt weder das Land noch die Sprache und findet sich plötzlich ohne Geld, Wohnung und Arbeit in einer völlig unbekannten Welt wieder. Ihr bleibt nur das Leben auf der Straße. Um sich zu schützen schlüpft sie in die Rolle des Jungen Amir, der sich als Müllsammler und Gelegenheitsjobber durchschlägt.
Neben dem alltäglichen Überlebenskampf muss sie sich schon bald auch mit ihrer eigenen Identität auseinandersetzen: Ist sie mehr Amra oder mehr Amir? Mehr Frau oder mehr Mann? Oder muss sie sich vielleicht gar nicht entscheiden?
