Der Autor Martin Steiner erwandert sich Europa: von Zürich aus geht es nach Frankreich (Burgund, Nordostfrankreich), Spanien (Pyrenäen, Santiago de Compostela), Italien (Genua, Venedig, Mantua), Griechenland (Samos, Kreta), Prag oder über den Rhein nach Baden-Württemberg (Markgräflerland, Kaiserstuhl, oberrheinische Auwälder) und von dort weiter Richtung Norden nach Amsterdam und die deutschen Nordseeinseln Föhr und Helgoland. Weil ihm das aber noch nicht nördlich genug ist, besucht er auch die Hebriden (Schottland), Irland (Dublin) und Lappland. Sein Blick fängt das Charakteristische der besuchten Landschaften und Städte ein, seine Reisebeschreibungen sind subtil und lesen sich abwechslungsreich. Und sie lösen vor allem eines beim Leser aus: den dringenden Wunsch, selbst einmal dort hin zu reisen.
