About this ebook

Hades, God of the Underworld, is seeking a successor. The prize? His fabled horn of plenty, source of boundless wealth. But to winnow down the applicant pool, Hades has devised a series of challenges as deadly to hopefuls as they are enlightening to readers, taking us all on a tour of the soil: its uses and abuses, riches and resources. Beneath our feet lies a world teeming with life, whose fate is intimately tied with our own. In this fantasy adventure Mathieu Burniat deftly blends pop science and mythology to educate and enthrall on a topic vital to our troubled times.

About the author

Born in Brussels in 1984, Mathieu Burniat was drawn to art and illustration from a young age. As a teenager, he took part in an animated film workshop called Zorobabel, and in 2007, he earned a degree in industrial design at the renowned visual arts school La Cambre. Burniat worked for two years as an industrial designer, which led him to travel to China to meet with local industrial companies. During these trips, he compiled countless images and souvenirs that would help him to create ‘Shrimp' (Dargaud 2012), his first comic book. Since then, Burniat has become a rising star in the field, completing ‘La Passion de Dodin-Bouffant' in 2014 (Dargaud; Europe Comics in English, ‘Dodin-Bouffant: Gourmet Extraordinaire'), followed by the celebrated ‘Le Mystère du monde quantique' in 2016 (Dargaud; Penguin in English, ‘Mysteries of the Quantum Universe').
