About this ebook

In 'Riders of the Silences,' authored by Max Brand, readers are immersed in the characteristic elements of the Western genre, replete with the sweeping drama of the American frontier. Brand's craftsmanship weaves a complex tale of vengeance and heroism, where the rugged landscape serves as more than mere backdrop; it is an integral character within the narrative. His prosaic style, a blend of terse dialogue and evocative descriptions, complements the tight pacing of the narrative, situating Brand within the literary context of early twentieth-century Western fiction, where the genre became a medium for exploring themes of civilization versus the wild, and the nature of law and justice on the American frontier. Max Brand, the pen name for Frederick Schiller Faust, was an influential figure in the proliferation of the Western as a popular literary genre. His prolific output and compelling storytelling were informed by his own life experiences and a fascination with the Old West. Underlying Brand's work is a nuanced understanding of human nature and the moral complexities faced by individuals on the fringes of society. 'Riders of the Silences' exemplifies Brand's ability to capture the essence of the Western ethos, drawing readers into a world where honor and brutality coexist and shape the lives of his characters. 'Riders of the Silences' is a must-read for aficionados of classic Westerns and those interested in the literary evolution of the American mythos. Max Brand's skill in crafting compelling characters and placing them in situations that test the boundaries of their morality is as relevant today as it was upon the book's original publication. This new edition by DigiCat Publishing, offering the work in various formats for modern readers, is an invitation to rediscover the power of a timeless epic and to acknowledge its rightful place as a classic of world literature.

About the author

Max Brand, the pen name of Frederick Schiller Faust, was an extraordinarily prolific American author known for his works in the Western genre as well as for creating the popular character Dr. Kildare. Born on May 29, 1892, in Seattle, Washington, Faust began his career as a poet before venturing into fiction writing. He adopted multiple pseudonyms over the course of his career, but Max Brand became the most enduring and celebrated. Faust's narrative style is characterized by vivid landscapes, complex characters, and gripping plots. 'Riders of the Silences' is one of his notable works, highlighting his talents in creating adventurous and enthralling Western tales. This novel, among others, helped cement his reputation as one of the leading storytellers in the genre. Faust was a versatile writer who also penned novels in other genres, including detective stories, love romances, and war-time adventures. Tragically, his prolific output was cut short when he died in Italy in 1944, while serving as a war correspondent during World War II. Despite his untimely death, Max Brand's legacy endures through the hundreds of stories and novels he wrote, many of which continue to entertain and influence readers and writers of Western literature.
