About this ebook

The first of a series of books about the interaction of children and animals, the book is about two girls taking responsibility for their actions. The girls, on their way home from school, go through the park on their bicycles. They see an old lady with a beautiful golden retriever on a leash. They ask the lady to let the dog off the leash so they can play with it. The dog is let loose and sees a squirrel shortly after the leash is off. Of course, the dog takes off after the squirrel, and the girls run after it, feeling responsible for the dog being let off leash.

About the author

Maxine de Villefranche has been a practicing attorney for over 20 years. In retirement, she has started writing children’s books and dedicates herself to “cause marketing” as a copywriter. The daughter of a veterinarian who cared not only for household pets and farm animals, her father also cared for exotic animals that came through town with circuses or entertainers who used animals in their act. She wants to share her fascination and love of animals with children. She also wants to educate them about the fact that many animals will become extinct, never to be seen again by future generations.
