Dazu werden Modelle der Industrieökonomie und der neueren Außenhandelstheorie verwendet, und es wird gezeigt, daß je nach Ursache und Motiv der Direktinvestitionen auch ein komplementäres Verhältnis erklärt werden kann. Zudem wird die strategische Bedeutung von Direktinvestitionen analysiert. Im empirischen Teil wird anschließend der Zusammenhang zwischen Direktinvestitionen im Ausland und Exporten für Österreich ökonometrisch untersucht.
