In Venetia anului 1509 poporul celebreaza printr-o sarbatoare de neuitat casatoria lui Roland Candiano fiul dogelui Candiano, cu Leonora Dandolo, mostenitoarea celebrei familii Dandolo.
In acest timp trei barbati, Foscari, Bembo si Altieri, ambitiosi, verosi si avizi de putere obtinuta prin orice mijloace, tes un complot destinat sa-l elimine pe Roland si familia sa. Astfel, intr-o singura noapte, acesta pierde tot: iubita, parintii, bogatia si libertatea. Dar razbunarea sa va fi teribila…
