Mick Abrahams first rose to fame as a guitarist during the 1960s and was a founder member of Jethro Tull, although his time with the band was to prove short lived owing to the vividly contrasting musical styles of himself and Ian Anderson. About the author
Mick Abrahams was born in 1943 in the middle of an air raid and, after an uncertain start, was adopted and brought up in Luton. An unremarkable student who disliked school, Abrahams found solace in music, learning to play the piano and later the guitar, at which he excelled. He was the original guitarist and a founder member of Jethro Tull in 1967 leading to the hit album This Was but the very different musical styles of Abrahams and Ian Anderson eventually caused a split and he left the band at the end of 1968. Mick then formed his own band, Blodwyn Pig, and they produced two albums Ahead Rings Out and Getting to This both of which spent several weeks in the UK Top Ten Charts. However, after two successful tours of America musical differences once again surfaced and Abrahams parted company with the Pig who disbanded shortly afterwards. Abrahams continued to enjoy success with The Mick Abrahams Band and in solo performances until, having become disillusioned with the music business, he quit during the 1970s and spent several years away from the spotlight. Today, Mick Abrahams is busier than ever and recent years have been spent writing and recording new music both with Blodwyn Pig and as a solo artist. He has also renewed his working relationship with Ian Anderson who played on Mick’s 1996 solo album One with special guest appearances at Jethro Tull concerts. Mick lives with his wife Kate and has two grown up sons.
