Miguel Acosta is an architect, sculptor, painter, and draftsman. He studied architecture at UCV ( University Central of Venezuela ) from 1972 to 1979. His journey into the visual arts began in 1975 when he enrolled in Charles Ventrillon-Horber's classical drawing workshop at UCV's Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, where he remained until 1977. From 1979 to 1984, he lived in Paris, where he pursued further studies in architecture with a postgraduate degree at the Unité Pédagogique d'Architecture de Villeneuve d'Asq in Lille (1980-1982). During his time in Paris, along with frequent visits to Italy, he developed a keen understanding of art and architecture as socio-cultural contributors to the city and the importance of history in defining its character.
During the 1990s, Acosta delved into designing various art-architecture integration proposals for buildings in the capital city and other parts of the country. He has taught architectural design and drawing at UCV (since 1984), UJMV (1985-1986), and USB (1987). Additionally, he has served as a visiting professor at the Schools of Architecture of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Medellín (Colombia). From 1990 to 1997, he curated exhibitions and events exploring the relationship between architectural work, design, and art, which took place at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of UCV and the current Museum of La Rinconada (MAVAO).
With a universal perspective, Acosta approaches architecture and design in their artistic and cultural dimensions, emphasizing their intrinsic connection to aesthetic experiences that link the history of art through architecture and the city as the pinnacle of culture. In 2009, he developed the teaching experience "CITY DRAWING" in which he synthesized aspects of drawing, art, architecture, and the history of cities in major European capitals such as Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin, as well as later in Venezuela (Mérida, Barquisimeto, Caracas), reaching Bogotá, Medellín, and Quito. Since 2016, he has been residing in Miami, USA, where he balances his role as a designer and draftsman with private and group teaching experiences, along with his work as a visual artist and architect. His endeavors have expanded internationally, participating in architectural and urbanism projects and competitions.
