Alejandra Pizarnik nace el 29 de abril 1936 en Buenos Aires, en una familia de inmigrantes judíos de Europa Central. Su pasión por la poesía es temprana y exclusiva: publica 3 poemarios (La tierra más ajena, 1955, La última inocencia, 1956, Las aventuras perdidas, 1958) antes de salir hacia París. Su vida en París (1960-1964) es fundamental para el desarrollo de su vocación poética. Ahí escribe Árbol de Diana, el poemario que la consagró, traba amistad con Julio Cortázar y Octavio Paz, y conoce a Simone de Beauvoir, Duras, Sartre. De regreso a Buenos Aires, publica otros poemarios hasta 1971. Se suicida el 25 septiembre 1972.
