Since 1963, Yad Vashem, the Israeli national Holocaust remembrance museum, has acted to identify and honor non-Jewish rescuers of Jews during the Holocaust. This book discusses some of the issues raised in the debates whether to accord the title of Righteous Among the Nations to candidates of this honor based on established criteria, that led to the approval of some and non-acceptance of others.

About the author

Born in Belgium, in 1937, the author fled to France during the German invasion, and together with his family was helped by a Catholic priest to flee to safety in Switzerland. After receiving his PhD degree at Temple University, Philadelphia, Paldiel worked for 24 years at Yad Vashem, Jerusalem, as director of the Righteous Among the Nations Department. Has written and lectured widely on non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews from the Nazis and their collaborators.
