Acerca de este libro electrónico

Gaskell’s autobiographical writings reflect her personal experiences and social observations. In the preface to Mary Barton, she explains her intent to bridge understanding of the working-class struggles. She paints a vivid picture of social life in the 1830s, such as her portrayal of Edinburgh society. Her biographical writings about Charlotte Brontë reveal her connections to the literary world. Accounts of her visit to Haworth Vicarage and her descriptions of Brontë’s marriage and funeral are both poignant and detailed. In shorter extracts, Gaskell explores themes of virtue, compassion, and the values of life. Works like Virtue has its own Reward deliver moral lessons and reflect her religious and philosophical thinking. This section sheds light on Gaskell’s introspection and literary contributions, highlighting her warm and humanistic approach.
