Hayley loves to write in rhyme for kids, and has learned to love her husband's cat, George, who features in My purrfect pet.

The book was originally written as an unpublished poem in 2013. Hayley met her cat-obsessed husband, Joaquín, in 2015, the same year that he encountered a ginger cat named George on a farm in Cornwall and decided he wanted one for himself. The only problem was that he was allergic to cats! But, when he moved from Spain to Australia in 2018, his allergies disappeared. On New Years' Eve 2020, Joaquín saw an advert by an animal rescue organisation, Paws & Claws Adoptions, offering a ginger cat named George for adoption. George is now firmly entrenched in the family.
