Digitale Medien und Informationstechnologien durchdringen zunehmend den Alltag von Adressat_innen wie Professionellen und prägen mittlerweile auch die Handlungskontexte Sozialer Arbeit. Internet und soziale Netzwerke eröffnen neue Zugänge zu und Kommunikationsformen innerhalb von Hilfen, Beratungs- und Dokumentationspraktiken werden durch informationstechnische Systeme (z.B. Falldokumentationssoftware) und virtuelle Angebotsformen (z.B. Onlineberatung) geformt bis dahin, dass fachliches Handeln und Technik zu hybriden sozio-technischen Dienstleistungssystemen verschmelzen. Der Band bietet eine grundlagentheoretische Rahmung dieser Phänomene, indem er gesellschafts- und sozialtheoretische sowie sozialpolitische Einordnungen der zu beobachtenden Mediatisierungsprozesse vornimmt (Teil 1). Im Anschluss werden verschiedene praktische Kontexte sowohl theoretisch als auch empirisch beleuchtet: das Verhältnis von Adressat_innen und Professionellen in virtuellen Räumen und mediatisierten Formen von Beratung und Unterstützung (Teil 2), die informationstechnologischen Transformationen von Diagnose und Dokumentation als Kernbestandteile professionellen Handelns (Teil 3) und schließlich die Mediatisierung organisationaler und institutioneller Kontexte Sozialer Arbeit (Teil 4).
