About the author
Nikolaj Gogol (1809–1952), ukrainisch-russisch aufgewachsen, gehört zu den bedeutendsten Schriftstellern russischer Sprache. Neben Erzählungen schrieb er den Roman Die toten Seelen und Theaterstücke wie Der Revisor.
Eberhard Reißner (1926–2011) war Professor für russische und ukrainische Literatur an den Universitäten Berlin und Mainz. Er war außerdem als Übersetzer und Herausgeber tätig.
