Er lag eine Zeit lang ganz still und lauschte vorsichtig, dann klappte er den Hut hoch und sah sich um. Zu seiner Erleichterung stellte er fest, dass er sich in seiner eigenen Wohnung befand und dass es sein Bett war, auf dem er lag. Er setzte sich auf. Er war vollständig angezogen, bis auf die Tatsache, dass er nur einen Schuh trug. Der andere war sorgfältig und präzise in der Mitte seiner Kommode platziert.
