About the author

NORMAN PAGE is Emeritus Professor of Modern English Literature, University of Nottingham. He has lectured in many parts of the world on nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature, and his many books include Thomas Hardy (1977), A. E. Housman: A Critical Biography (1983), A Conrad Companion (1986), and Tennyson: An Illustrated Life (1992), as well as editions of novels by Dickens, Hardy, Wilkie Collins and other writers.
