This text is one of the few surviving works to come out of the Nubian church in its zenith. It gives a comical account of a pilgrim drawn to the church of the Coptic Saint Menas, and the events that transpire along the way as she sojourns the Nile river. It has its parallels in Coptic literature, where it parallels accounts given in the Synaxarium, but its distinctive because of its employment of the medieval Nubian tongue and its orientation towards Upper Egypt.

D.P. Curtin is an Irish-American antiquarian and translator, who works with texts from the high medieval world. To date he has translated over three hundred texts relating to the development of the Western World and Christianity between the 5th and 15th centuries.
