This article is an excerpt from Sermon 2 and the whole of Sermon 51 in his Spiritual Refining (1652), in modern English.

Anthony Burgess (†1664) was a partially conforming minister in the Anglican Church, a Westminster divine, and was ejected in the Great Ejection of 1662.
