Ralph Simmons was born and raised on a ranch in the Nebraska Sandhills. His desire to experience risky, unusual activity and seek profitable opportunities led him away from his conservative Mid-Western up-bringing to all corners of the earth. In Ralph time he was a merchant seaman, union organizer, cowboy, scuba diver, and gambler. The life of Ray Spanner is based on Ralph's personal experiences.
