About this ebook

NYT bestselling author "Patricia Rice employs wicked wit and sizzling sensuality to turn the battle of the sexes into a magical romp." — Mary Jo Putney, New York Times bestselling author

Can a cynical scientist and an illogical enchantress find happiness together?

Lady Ninian Malcolm Siddons, healer and herbalist, has dedicated her life to the village of Wystan, her Northumberland home. But duty has cost her dearly—her title isolates her, her gifts mark her as other, and love seems forever out of reach. But legend warns the village cannot thrive without a magical Malcolm...

Drogo Ives, Earl of Ives and Wystan, values logic, honor, and scientific certainty. He scorns the illogic of romance—and women as irrational and contradictory as rattlepated Lady Ninian. Let his younger brother inherit the title and its messy obligations.

But one fateful night changes everything.

Now, bound by honor to marry the woman carrying his child, Drogo faces a haunting family curse: Malcolm–Ives’ unions always end in tragedy. Can they defy history—and their own prejudices—to forge a future where love bridges the gap between magic and reason to save their families and homes?

The best! A great book with an intricate, intriguing plot. There's plenty of twists and turns between the impetuous meeting of the protagonists and the HEA. Along the way Rice introduces us to the quirky, feeling (sensitive) Malcolm family-who only have girls and the logical, forbidding but charming Ives, who only have boys.Things are complicated from the very start by a legend local to the little village in Northumberland stating that disaster results when Malcolms mate with Iveses. Drawn by an attraction neither understands, Ninian Malcolm submits from the pull of curiosity and emotion to the stern, single-minded head of the Ives family, Drogo. The local village suffers. When Ninian turns up pregnant, Drogo is left with the responsibility to convince the liberated woman who sees her primary purpose in life as guarding the welfare of the villagers and property to marry him. But Drogo doesn't know how to love and Ninian doesn't want to live without it.The resolution of this dilemma occupies the remainder of the book. Along the way, we are treated to sly humor, insights on the nature of people who know by instinct and feeling and those who work by logic and obligation, and, of course, the focused determination of both Ninian and the author that love conquers all. Highly recommended reading.
