Peter Cheyneywar ein britischer Autor von Hardboiled novels, einer Krimi-Gattung. Nach der Veröffentlichung seines ersten Kriminalromans 1936 erlangte er große Popularität. Im Laufe seiner finanziell sehr erfolgreichen Karriere schuf er Charaktere wie den FBI-Agenten Lemmy Caution (häufig verfilmt, auch von Jean-Luc Godard 1965 in Lemmy Caution gegen Alpha 60 auf die Leinwand geworfen) und Slim Callaghan.
