About this ebook

Sulfation roasting of chalcopyrite concentrates, followed by water or dilute acid leach, was investigated as an alternative to conventional smelting. Cooper sulfation was found to be effectively promoted by the addition of materials such as Fe2O3 to the furnace charge. Conversion of the cooper to a soluble form was essentially complete after roasting the mixed charge at 400° to 600° C, using an Fe2O3 -to-chalcopyrite concentrate weight ratio of 1:2.
