About this ebook

THE FIRST BOOK IN THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING SERIES

I am the Reaper and death is my shadow.

Darrow is a Helldiver. A pioneer of Mars.

Born to slave beneath the earth so that one day, future generations might live above it.

He is a Red - humankind's lowest caste. But he has something the Golds - the ruthless ruling class - will never understand.

He has a wife he worships, a family who give him strength. He has love.

And when they take that from him, all that remains is revenge . . .

Pierce Brown's heart-pounding debut is the first book in a spectacular series that combines the drama of Game of Thrones with the epic scope of Star Wars.

READERS LOVE RED RISING

'A ridiculously good book with complex world-building, riveting characters, and a crazy sci-fi space school. What more could you want in a story?' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

'What an intense, visceral, twisty story. There's a lot more of Lord of the Flies here than Hunger Games or Ender and it just builds and builds to a heck of a conclusion' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

'This was such a clever beginning to this series!' ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Incomprehensible. The writing is soo woolly that I thought I must be coming down with early onset dementia. I was left guessing for much of the book about character motivation. The set pieces were poorly written. The upper-class characters - meant to be the elite, spoke a posh dialect that would be archaic in a modern book, not just one set 300 years ahead.

At the beginning of the book I couldn't see where the story was going, honest I don't think the author knew where it was going either. Eventually the story stumbles into Lord of the Flies/Hunger Games and from that point it is actually pretty good although the ending felt a bit anti-climactic.

I liked the fresh story-line that merged good sci-fi with a socio-political background. Best of all, the action is engaging and the book's flow is fluid. I liked that the protagonist was not flawless and infallible, which made his journey to success in this installment extremely addictive to read. In summary, I loved the mature writing and solid sci-fi aspects. I'm buying the 2nd installment as I write this.
