About this ebook

The aim of this study was to find a new natural, non-toxic, effective antibiotic from the organic plant extract of Ixora coccinea. The antimicrobial activity was determined in methanolic extract of leaves of Ixora coccinea against clinically relevant pathogens from eye infection. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of methanolic extract of the leaves of Ixora coccinea were in the range of 300 μl/ml and 400 μl/ml for isolate and 200 μl /ml and 400μl/ml for Staphylococcus aureus respectively. Antioxidant activity, spectroscopy and phytochemical analysis of the extract were also studied. These results indicate that Ixora coccinea leaves may be let another source of natural antibiotics.
