Now a major BBC drama: The Strike series

When a troubled model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case.

Strike is a war veteran - wounded both physically and psychologically - and his life is in disarray. The case gives him a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model's complex world, the darker things get - and the closer he gets to terrible danger . . .

A gripping, elegant mystery steeped in the atmosphere of London - from the hushed streets of Mayfair to the backstreet pubs of the East End to the bustle of Soho - The Cuckoo's Calling is a remarkable book. Introducing Cormoran Strike, this is the acclaimed first crime novel by J.K. Rowling, writing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

*** The latest book in the thrilling Strike series, TROUBLED BLOOD, is out now! ***

I spent the first half not fully invested in the characters despite the excellent detail. I made the decision around 2/3 through that I probably wouldn't read the sequel. Then for the final 1/3 I couldn't put it down and went straight into the next! Very accurate depiction of London and a solid twist or two. Can imagine as a film!

Have never been interested in the Potter books but actually enjoyed this even if the twist was predictable. She has a fantastic command of the English language, I was forever looking up words and feel the richer for it. Her writing was very descriptive which made the characters and the setting very real. Easy to adapt for film or TV.....

I only read this to see if JK could produce more great work as to be honest I dont usually like murder mysteries however I really enjoyed this book, it had good solid and interesting main characters and had you guessing the whole way through. Im looking forward to the next book which is due out in the next few months!
