Ruth Gruber didn't want to live an ordinary life, and she wouldn't take "no" for an answer. Born to a Jewish American family in 1911, she grew up to become a renowned journalist and activist. Her career spanned seven decades and led her to places that other reporters wouldn't or couldn't go, from Nazi Germany to the remote Arctic regions of the Soviet Union. At a time when women were expected to stay at home and raise families, Ruth told the stories of people in need and fought for their rights to live in safety and freedom.

About the author

Rona Arato is a former teacher and an award-winning author of more than 20 children’s books. Many of her books deal with human rights, tackling anti-Semitism and the effects it has on the Jewish community. She is a frequent presenter at schools and community organizations.

Isabel Muñoz is an illustrator of more than forty children's books. The Bright Agency has represented her since 2016. Previously, she studied fine arts at The Complutense University of Madrid. She grew up loving everything cute, spooky, vintage and having a box of colored waxes as her favorite child game. Isabel works from a lovely picture book-filled studio in the magical Asturias, in northern Spain. She lives with her husband Fer, their baby Little M and their funny dog Pepi.
