H. P. Lovecraft (1890–1937) never achieved commercial success during his lifetime and died in poverty. He was posthumously recognised as one of the most important writers of the horror genre, having laid the foundations for generations to come and inspired countless authors with his wildly imaginative stories of myths, monsters and madness.
