La pubblicazione dei dati scaturiti da questa prima ricerca sugli aspetti tecnologici della scultura del Gandhara si pone come un momento assolutamente preliminare, con la consapevolezza di quanto sia necessario ancora approfondire, specie riguardo alla quantità dei reperti da analizzare, provenienti anche da altri siti finora non presi in considerazione, ed alla quantità e varietà di analisi da effettuare. Si è certi comunque, già dai risultati ottenuti, che tale studio sia particolarmente stimolante e utile per meglio focalizzare alcune problematiche storiche e culturali, legate alle modalità di arrivo, di sviluppo e di espansione degli influssi artistici nel mondo buddhista del Gandhara, tra i quali anche il gusto per la scultura policroma, conservato in modo evidente, ancora fino ad oggi, nei paesi dell’area indo-himalayana. The present publication of the results of a first phase of research on technological aspects of Gandharan sculptural tradition is a preliminary achievement. We are aware of how much remains to do, both in terms of the amount of artworks to study, and of the variety of analytical approaches that has to be applied. However, in the light of the results so far obtained, this line of research appears fruitful and promising for the investigation of the spread of artistic know-how in the great Buddhist gandharan tradition, including polychrome sculpture, still very popular in the Indo-Himalayan region.
