This book introduces you to the planet Kalumbu and the Trials. Not a tourist place that's for sure !!! Penny is a smart one. She is small so she can fit in places others can not so she cleans the waste tubes. I liked how she explained the waffle smell. You could picture that big stack of waffles and syrup. Excellent start to a new series! I love instalove fated mate stories and this one was right up my alley. I especially loved that the human also smelled the scent…hence the waffles. This was a short, quick read with very little spice. The story ends well, but it feels incomplete. It continues in the next book, so we will likely get more about this couple later in the series. Now to grab the next one!. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A charming, whimsical prequel novella in the Starlight Monsters universe. It’s playful, offbeat, and instantly engaging. Penny is resilient and resourceful. Qong’s confusion and attraction, along with his shimmering golden scales that Penny likens to waffles, is quirky and endearing. A swoon-worthy romance in a bite-sized story.
