The author is a white-wine swilling girly whose social life is all too frequently interrupted by the demands of her job as a journalist. Her job and a teenage stint in the army cadets, have equipped her with all sorts of essential survival techniques - not least deflecting full-frontal attacks, poorly executed night exercises and learning how to conceal a hairdryer in her ration pack. Nowadays she is more frequently seen clutching her bag in nightclubs or blagging her way into freebie parties and then trying to function at work with a hangover.
