A white man has been lynched two months before twenty-three-year-old Donald Gambell returns to his New Jersey hometown. Michael Stein lives in Rhode Island and teaches at Brown University. His last novel, The White Life, was nominated for the Pen/Faulkner Award and was an independent bookstore bestseller.
