“What?” I asked, my voice a breathless whisper.

I’d never been so close to a man before that I could smell his breath. His earthy scent enveloped me, reminding me of the woods and rainstorms. 

“A kiss,” Robin whispered before closing the distance between our lips.

I didn’t have time to react before his mouth was on mine. This was my first kiss, and I melted against his body as his smell and taste surrounded me. His lips were soft and gentle against mine. So many emotions and thoughts whirled in my mind until the resounding click and the heavy weight of his shackles pushed my hands down.

I broke the kiss with a gasp, looking down at my hands as the key dangled from his finger. 

“Sorry, Princess. I have to get back to my Merry Men,” Robin said with a sad smile, locking the cell behind him.

Fury burst through me, and a scream erupted from my throat. “You will pay for that, Robin Hood.”
