About this ebook

This ebook presents the results of the Footsteps Forward project carried out by the RJ4All International Institute with support from the London Violence Reduction Unit of the Mayor of London. It was carried out in 2024 in South East London, working directly with young people aged 14-18 who were affected by loss and serious youth violence. It used the RJiNEAR resilience model drawn from restorative justice and positive psychology principles. It aimed to test a hypothesis whereby the delivery of combined group multi-sports and therapeutic activities guided by the RJiNEAR ethos, will lead to improved well-being and resilience outcomes for young people affected by serious youth violence and loss. The project bridges an important caveat in the extant literature focusing on structured support for these youth. Among the findings, the project illustrated that it created a safe space for grief expressions and sports engagement. Additionally, a moderate correlation was observed between RJiNEAR and the support received for grief.
