War ihr »Kirchenkampf« theologisch, kirchenpolitisch oder politisch motiviert? Und nicht zuletzt: Wie ist dieser Kampf heute zu deuten? Was können wir heute daraus für unsere eigene Vergangenheitsbewältigung und Sicht auf Kirche und Politik lernen? Diese und weitere Fragen werden in einer vergleichenden Studie auf einer breiten Quellenbasis wissenschaftlich fundiert und zugleich allgemeinverständlich aufgearbeitet. Karl Barth (Bekennende Kirche), Walter Künneth (Jungreformatorische Bewegung) and Emanuel Hirsch (Deutsche Christen) were certainly influential, distinguished and representative theologians in the so-called "Church Struggle" in Germany in the 1930s. The way they interpreted and talked about this struggle is of great importance for our own understanding of this turbulent era of church history. The main goal of this study is to examine the influence of theological thinking into the interpretation of the "Church-Struggle" to help us to find our own way to deal with this dubious chapter in the history between church and state and complicated Inter-Church Relations.

Dr. Torben Burkart arbeitet als Gymnasiallehrer. Er hat Evangelische Theologie und Klassische Philologie studiert und war von 2017 bis 2020 Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Universität des Saarlandes.
